Objectives
1. Educate the public on key characteristics and skills of healthy marriages and healthy
family relationships as identified by research.
2. Raise public awareness of the benefits and positive outcomes of healthy marriages and
healthy family relationships for New Mexico as identified by research.
3. Develop and disseminate a directory of evidence-based programs offered throughout the
state that promote healthy marriages and healthy family relationships.
4. Provide information to the legislature and state government agencies on the impact of
programs in New Mexico that promote healthy marriages and healthy families.
5. Advocate for funding of evidence-based prevention programs that promote healthy
marriages and healthy family relationships.
6. Work with groups that focus on specific issues (teen pregnancy, child abuse) or specific
family members (Early Childhood groups, Alliance for Fathers and Families, Grandparents
Raising Grandchildren) to promote healthy marriages and healthy family relationships.
7. Compile information on the formation and success of healthy marriage initiatives and
evidence-based family strengthening programs in other states (e.g. Oklahoma -
http://aspe.hhs.gov/hsp/06/omi/ index.shtml).
8. Analyze the impact of policies affecting marriages, families and the well-being of
children in New Mexico.
